Summary: During the past twenty-five years Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have played a key role in fostering democratization and social equity, often filling the gap between national public policies and people’s needs. As such, the strengthening of CSOs has been vaunted as part of the solution for the region’s socio-economic problems and search for alternative development paths. The Internet can be a key tool for helping CSOs deal with and, often, solve these problems. As such, it can strengthen their capacity to provide new and better services and products for their target populations.
